JONES SCIENCE FACILITATOR


QUALIFICATIONS:        

 

  1. Bachelor's Degree

  2. Texas Teaching Certificate

  3. At least 3 years successful teaching experience

  4. Effective written and oral communication skills.

  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To facilitate the Jones Science program and the Science Distribution Center


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Teacher Payscale Estimated 187 days;  estimated 8 hours daily Wage hour status:  Exempt  The continuation of this position is contingent upon the renewal of the grant funding this position.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  

Continue the work begun by the Jones staff in developing an integrated curriculum with science as a meaningful context for instruction in other subject areas. The ultimate goal is to increase student achievement in all subject areas using an integrated approach.
  1.  

Collaborate and support teachers as the integrated curriculum is merged into their instruction by monitoring teacher progress, modeling lessons, and providing supplemental resources.
  1.  

Study programs used in other districts and on other campuses that use science as a context for instruction in other subject areas.
  1.  

Develop grants that will attract additional resources to the integrated curriculum.
  1.  

Create personalized teacher guides for the FOSS material for activities that will meet the needs of Jones students and teachers.
  1.  

Provide training for the teachers on how to utilize the FOSS program in all classes and all subject areas.
  1.  

Develop a cognitive coaching environment to teach, monitor, and model instruction for all Jones teachers.
  1.  

Plan and provide training sessions utilizing the integrated curriculum approach.
  1.  

Provide extended teacher training sessions int he summer months.
  1.  

Develop and expand community relationships with the Caldwell Zoo, the Discovery Science Place, and the Tyler Art Museum.
  1.  

Create enriching experiences for students either on campus or at the partner facility.
  1.  

Enlarge the scope of community participation by recruiting other businesses and/or agencies to join in partnership activities.
  1.  

Maintaining necessary stocked supplies for refurbishment of each module.
  1.  

Coordinate the pick up and deliver of each module with Coca Cola and the schools involved in the program.
  1.  

Maintain the proposed web page providing science links with each topic cover in the FOSS workshops, and students' work section relating choice pieces of writings as they relate to the FOSS modules.
  1.  

Maintain the live specimen facility component of the Science Distribution Center.
  1.  

Coordinating the check-out of each live specimen to participating campuses.
  1.  

Provide staff development training sessions which prepare teachers on how to fully utilize the FOSS modules in their classroom.
  1.  

Provide administrator training opportunities on the various FOSS components and on ways that FOSS modules can positively impact their campus scores.
  1.  

Attend FOSS-related workshops and professional development opportunities to obtain updated information on the FOSS program.
  1.  

Maintain collegiality among other FOSS districts by keeping the lines of communication open.
  1.  

Publicizing the benefits and positive outcomes of the FOSS program with community members and regional and national colleagues.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

                Mental Demands:  Ability to hear information in one language, process the information and produce information in another language using an alternate mode of communication. Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress. 

                Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Constant repetitive hand movement- beyond recommended 30 minute intervals with breaks. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
