High School Coordinator of Academic Services


 

REPORTS TO: Campus Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree
2. Texas Teaching Certificate

3. At least 3 years successful teaching experience

4. Effective written and oral communication skills
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

JOB GOAL:

  1. To coordinate the academic services at designated high school campus.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher payscale -  Estimated 187 days; estimated 8 hours daily Wage hour status: Exempt - The continuations of this position is contingent upon the renewal of the grant(s) funding this position.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Provide leadership in coordinating activities of academy deans.

2.       

Serve as consultant and facilitator to deans.

3.       

Conduct dean meetings.

4.       

Communicate with academy leadership teams.

5.       

Work with deans, community representatives and administration to establish new programs

6.       

Research and promote authentic learning and contextual teaching.

7.       

Research and plan academy sequence of courses.

8.       

Meet with Community Advisory Committee.

9.       

Interact with professional organizations.

10.     

Submit articles to director of communication.

11.     

Communicate with other school districts, individuals and organizations.

12.     

Conduct campus tours.

13.     

Create and arrange printing of academy brochures.

14.     

Review and choose conference opportunities.

15.     

Attend conferences.

16.     

Register and make travel arrangements for deans, faculty members and administrators to attend conferences.

17.     

Network with people throughout the state and nation who have implemented career academies.

18.     

Disseminate information and materials.

19.     

Make arrangements, facilitate and host consultants.

20.     

Plan and facilitate staff development.

21.     

Administer the Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) grant.

22.     

Gather data, arrange for evaluation of academies (external and internal) and file reports for the SLC grant.
23. Maintain and audit SLC grant budget.
24. Communicate with SLC grant contact person in Washington.
25. Facilitate site visits, develop strategies to address concerns of evaluators and monitor progress of accomplishment of strategies with regard to the SLC grant.
26. Act as an advisor to research best practices, gather materials, and assist advisory facilitators.
27. Assist with Campus Plan of Action and master schedule.
28. Create and arrange printing of school profile.
29. Assist with grant writing.
30. Research and supervise student interest testing.
31. Serve on Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and coordinate the chamber Groundhog Day job shadowing.
32. Administer the Investment Capitol Fund (ICF) grant.
33. Create and supervise trailer classes for ICF grant.
34. Arrange and coordinate teacher extern program in summer for the ICF grant.
35. Present school standards at Parents Anonymous classes as a part of ICF grant.
36. Audit expenditures, write and submit reports, hold grant committee meetings, and monitor goals and objectives of the ICF grant.
37. Serve on the campus CPOC.
38. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrate teamwork in daily activities.
39. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for district personnel.
40. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
41. Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.
42. Provide complete and accurate information int he conduct of district business.
43. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
44. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
45. Articulate the district's mission and goals to community and solicit support in realizing the mission.
46. Perform other tasks and assume such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress;

Physical Demands:  Occasional travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; Moderate walking, standing stooping; heavy lifting and carrying possible.
