908AA - CONTENT SPECIALIST - MATHEMATICS


 

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of K-12 Mathematics

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree preferred.
  2. Five years successful teaching experience in the area of mathematics.
  3. Successful leadership in facilitating groups, delivering staff development, and coaching staff.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher Pay: 204 days Wage/hour status: Exempt


JOB GOAL:

1. To provide the leadership and expertise needed to make instruction effective and positive for each student in the area of mathematics.

2. To provide content instruction in mathematics to teachers and model effective strategies with students and teachers.

3. To assist teachers in identifying and applying various research-based instructional strategies in the classroom on targeted campuses.

4. To assist in analyzing student assessment data and developing plans for improvement.

 


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.

Serves as a content specialist in mathematics by staying current on research, developing instructional strategies for implementation across the grade levels, and designing staffing development for teachers on effective strategies.   

2.

Demonstrate effective coaching and guidance skills and inspire both the respect and the trust of principals, teachers, and other colleagues.

3.       

Works with teachers through grade levels and/or content areas to implement curriculum and assessment instruments and interventions based upon student data.

4.       

Promote the content relevance and effectiveness in terms of TEKS in mathematics and its relationship with the accountability measures..

5.       

Performs classroom visitations and demonstration lessons to model strategies and monitors curriculum implementation through effective coaching methods.

6.       

Conducts staff development for teachers in the content areas and instructional strategies.

7.       

Informs teachers of major curriculum trends and developments and leads study groups of current research.

8.

Assists in the writing and construction of performance criteria and assessment materials.

9.

Closely monitors benchmark data and analyzes student performance and teaching methods in the mathematics with a focus on addressing areas of instructional needs.

10.

Meets regularly with district level staff and then confers with campus administration on curriculum, instructional focus, and staff development plans.

11.

Orients new teachers in the content areas and instructional strategies.

12.   

Facilitates the preparation of curriculum alignment materials, assessment materials, inventories and budget requests for staff development and materials.

13.   

Assists with campus planning and scheduling in coordination with the district plan.

14.   

Improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

15.   

Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

16.   

Keep current on professional written materials, current research on effective instruction, and state/federal expectations.

17.   

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

18.   

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position as assigned.

19.   

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

Working Conditions:
Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate district-wide functions.
Physical Demands: Frequent district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
