REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Education or a directly related field of study.

  2. Campus and Central Administrative experience

  3. Texas administrative certification or other appropriate certification

  4. Experience with program leadership

 JOB GOALS:

  1. To provide district-wide coordination of instructional support programs.

  2. To provide leadership relative to instructional support program implementation and sustainment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 8, 226 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.     

Supervise and direct district staff functions including Elementary and Secondary Education, and Curriculum and Instruction.

2.     

Participate in and formalize district short and long range planning in areas of possible growth, expansion, and new educational opportunities.

3.     

Evaluate personnel under direct supervision and provide input for indirect supervision.

4.     

Direct Curriculum and Instruction, the development, implementation, and coordination of policies and programs covering special programs, visual and performing arts, early childhood, physical education, reading/language arts, mathematics, science, career and technology education, social studies programs, library and media services, and instructional web-site facilitation, which will provide a balanced program throughout the district.

5.     

Direct Professional Development and Staff Training, the operations of Professional Development, Staff Training, Instructional Training and Development, and Support Staff Training.

6.     

Direct and maintain records and reports as necessary for the Superintendent of Schools and other executive staff to keep the Board of Trustees of the district’s progress and future plans.

7.     

Develop and implement the type of organization needed to accomplish the district’s aims, objectives and programs, with collaboration of the Deputy Superintendent.

8.     

Through staff departments, assist the operating units with the selection, training and development of executive and administrative personnel.

9.     

Direct the establishment of, and ongoing operations of the Curriculum and Instruction Division to insure long-term programs, in order to meet the needs of the schools and the community.

10.   

Direct the development of programs and methods for establishment of standards of performance and the evaluation of performance against these standards for the purpose of aiding operating divisions in the attainment of their own and district objectives.

11.   

Provide leadership in the development of a modern program for the division.

12.   

Facilitate the preparation and coordination of division budgets.

13.   

Assume responsibility for budget development and long-range financial planning of the division.

14.   

Keep informed of and interpret all laws, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies affecting the division.

15.   

Attend Board meetings.

16.   

Facilitate in the development of program proposals to be presented to the Deputy Superintendent of schools.

17.   

Coordinate and supervise the work of all staff members in the division.

18.   

Conduct staff meetings as needed to interpret changes in Board policy or administrative rules, to discuss developments, and to evaluate trends in education as they pertain to the areas of assigned responsibility.

19.   

Communicate to the Deputy Superintendent the requirements and needs of the district as perceived by members of the division.

20.   

Remain abreast of developments and innovation in the field by reading current literature, attending professional society and association meetings and conferences, and discussing developments and problems of mutual interest with others in the field.

21.   

Initiate studies and research in various aspects of work of the division.

22.   

Assist in the determination of types of programs needed by the schools and make appropriate recommendations.

23.   

Devise comprehensive and effective system of record keeping in accordance with the particular needs of the division and the policies, regulations, and laws affecting the division.

24.   

Work cooperatively with leaders of other administrative divisions in integrating and coordinating individual efforts to meet the educational needs of students receiving services under instruction support programs.

25.   

Secure consultants, specialist, and other resources to assist principals, teachers, and instructional staff in attaining objectives.

26.   

Assist in the planning and implementation of effective professional development as such relates to the mission of the district and needs of the students attuned to instructional support programs.

27.   

Facilitate the compliance of legal requirements with all instructional support division legal dictates and policies as set forth by the Board, TEA, and federal entities.

28.   

Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

29.   

All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.

Working Conditions:
Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data.
Physical Demands:  Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible; frequent district wide travel; operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
