674A - DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT


REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Instructional Support

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree minimum
  2. Campus and Central Administrative experience
  3. Texas administrative certification or other appropriate certification
  4. Experience with program leadership

SUPERVISES: Special Education, Bilingual/ESL, CTE, Advanced Academic Studies, Prekindergarten, Secondary Counselors, Response to Intervention

JOB GOALS:

  1. To provide district-wide coordination of instructional support programs.
  2. To provide leadership relative to instructional support program implementation and sustainment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional; Pay grade 7, 226 days wage/hour status: exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Oversees the operations of special education, bilingual/ESL, CTE, Advanced Academic Studies, prekindergarten, and secondary counselors, and RTI.

2.       

Provides leadership in the development of a modern program for the division.

3.       

Develops, establishes, and refines the general program of the divisions of instructional services.

4.       

Facilitates the preparation and coordination of division budgets.

5.       

Assumes responsibility for budget development and long-range financial planning of the division.

6.       

Keeps informed of and interpret all laws, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies affecting the division.

7.       

Attends Board meetings.

8.       

Facilitates the development of program proposals.

9.       

Coordinates and supervises the work of all staff members in the division as assigned by the Executive Director.

10.     

Conducts staff meetings as needed to interpret changes in Board policy or administrative rules, to discuss developments, and to evaluate trends in education as they pertain to the areas of assigned responsibility.

11.     

Communicates to the Executive Director the requirements and needs of the district as perceived by members of the division.

12.     

Remains abreast of developments and innovation in the field by reading current literature, attending professional society and association meetings and conferences, and discussing developments and problems of mutual interest with others in the field.

13.     

Inaugurates studies and research in various aspects of work of the division.

14.     

Assists in the determination of types of programs needed by the schools and make appropriate recommendations.

15.     

Devises comprehensive and effective system of record keeping in accordance with the particular needs of the division and the policies, regulations, and laws affecting the division.

16.     

Prepares and submits reports and other documents as required by the Executive Director.

17.     

Works cooperative with leaders of other administrative divisions in integrating and coordinating individual efforts to meet the educational needs of students receiving services under instruction support programs.

18.     

Secures consultants, specialist, and other resources to assist principals, teachers, and instructional staff in attaining objectives.

19.     

Assists in the planning and implementation of effective professional development as such relates to the mission of the district and needs of the students attuned to instructional support programs.

20.     

Facilitate the compliance of legal requirements with all instructional support division legal dictates and policies as set forth by the Board, TEA, and federal entities.

21.     

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Executive Director may assign.  

Equipment Used: Computer, copier, fax, printer, scanner, calculator

Working Conditions: Mental demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data

Physical Demands: Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible; frequent district wide travel; operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
