645AA FACILITATOR OF MEDIA SERVICES AND INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCE CENTER


     

Reports To: Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction

 

Qualifications:

Educational/Certification

  1. Master's Degree in Library Sciences preferred.
  2. Valid Texas teaching certificate and Librarian certification.
  3. Texas Mid-management, administrative or curriculum experience preferred.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

Special Knowledge and Skills

  1. Knowledge of library standards, media services and technology vision, trends and applications.

  2. Possesses a working knowledge of technology hardware and software.

  3. Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators and the community.

  4. Demonstrates organization and management abilities.

  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience

  1. At least five years successful teaching/librarian experience.

  2. Demonstrated experience in curriculum and technology

  3. Campus or district level leadership experience.

  4. Experience in technology, curriculum, media services, and staff development.

Supervises: Instructional Resource Center staff

 


Terms of Employment: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 4, 226 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP:

1.

Works with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis with emphasis on integration of library skills.

2.

 Facilitates the district curriculum, instructional policies, accomplishments, goals, and new directions to parents and the community and solicits their input on instructional issues in the areas of  library/media services

3.

Plans, implements, and evaluates TEKS-based instructional programs with librarians, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques.

4.

Plans, facilitates and conducts staff development activities that address the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from teachers and others in the areas of library/media services.

5.

Secures input and data to evaluate the district library/media program effectiveness.

6.

Keeps abreast of new knowledge, research, technology, and instructional strategies incorporated into best practices for library/media curriculum.

7.

Facilitates the implementation of a collaborative process that integrates the curriculum with library/media skills as set forth by the Texas Library Standards and  Tyler ISD .

8.

Facilitates the district’s library/media programs at all campuses, along with the district library budget and campus allocation.

9.

Provides guidance and assistance in the selection, acquisition and processing of library/media materials in the district.

10.

Facilitates the District Library Advisory Committee and works with campus advisory committees.

11.

Receives and manages the ongoing exhibit books for all librarians in the district.

12.

Facilitates the operations of the Instructional Resource Center (IRC) in providing services to district personnel as set forth in Tyler ISD guidelines for the IRC and updating and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the professional library.

 

CAMPUS SUPPORT:

13.

Promotes and supports an encouraging environment that allows classroom teacher/librarian collaborative efforts in the effective implementation of library research strategies related to the specific areas of instruction. 

14.

Provides support to campus administrators through input on the effectiveness of implementation of the library/media program based on the Texas State Standards.

15.

Promotes and encourages opportunities for teachers to receive training in the library on key resources that integrate the curriculum and library/media skills.

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

16.

 Establishes and manages the district library software programs, including Destiny Management System, AR, online encyclopedias, online reference resources, and other current electronic media related to student/teachers needs in conjunction with State and District library/media standards.

17.

Provide leadership for review, evaluation, acquisition, and integration of technology and electronic media relevant to library/media services.

18.

Facilitates the implementation of library/media best practices that address the mission of the district to encourage student achievement through the use of current technology trends.

19.

Effectively maintains budgets for the district library services and the IRC.
