QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s Degree
  2. Texas Principal Certification preferred
  3. Valid Texas teaching certificate and at least five years successful experience as a G/T, IB, or A/P teacher
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate

JOB GOALS

  1. To provide district-wide services for students enrolled in gifted, Advanced Placement, Pre-Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Programmes, Distance Learning courses, and Concurrent Credit courses and to coordinate these programs with general education to best impact student achievement.
  1. To provide technical assistance and program leadership to meet legal requirements and reflect best practices.
     

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 5, 226 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

                  LEADERSHIP

1.

Implement procedures and coordinate the process to identify gifted and talented students at all grade levels district-wide, including review of student data and testing of students.

2.

Develop and revise the gifted and talented, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate,  Distance Learning, and Concurrent Credit curriculum, as needed.

3.

Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the G/T, AP, IB, Distance Learning, and Concurrent Credit programs and implement changes based on the findings.

4.

Coordinate with state and federal programs and participate in grant-writing activities as needed.

5.

Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents, students, administrators, and teachers.

6.

Plan and conduct parent meetings, including parent advisory committee meetings.

7.

Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

8.

Develop and conduct or arrange for staff development sessions, including sessions on delivery of instruction, enriched learning in classroom settings, and methods for identifying and meeting the needs of  G/T, A/P, IB, and Concurrent Credit students.

9.

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

10.

Analyzes data and prepares reports relative to G/T, A/P, and IB programs to evaluate effectiveness and set annual goals and objectives for all advanced study programs.

                  CAMPUS SUPPORT

11.

Assist teachers to develop and provide G/T, AP, IB, and Concurrent Credit students with alternative course work through curriculum modification, acceleration, etc.

12.

Provide resources and materials to support staff in accomplishing program goals.

13.

Recruit, select, and train personnel. Assist in making sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

14.

Meets regularly with administrators, teachers, and staff (G/T, A/P, IB) to provide guidance and support for program integration and implementation.

                  ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS

15.

Administer and monitor the G/T, AP, IB, and Concurrent Credit budgets and ensure that programs are cost-effective and that gifted and talented funds are managed wisely.

16.

Compile and implement budget and cost estimates based on documented needs of the programs.

17.

Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the programs.

18.

Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to the curriculum division, specifically G/T, IB, AP,  Distance Learning, and Concurrent Credit.

19.

Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

20.

Implements district student management policies, communicates expected student behavior related to advanced studies programs, and ensures enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook at all special events.

21.

Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents and uses technology effectively.

22.

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance; sets performance goals and work plans, and evaluates the job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.

23.

Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding students in all advanced studies programs.

24.

Articulate the district’s mission and goals to community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.

25.

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

26.

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

27.

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

28.

Communicates effectively with administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and community through verbal and written conventions.

Working Conditions
Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate district-wide functions.
Physical Demands: Frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
