634BB - FACILITATOR, IB/AP PROGRAM - HIGH SCHOOL


REPORTS TO:  High School Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree, preferred.
  2. Valid Texas teaching certificate with at least five years successful teaching and/or administrative experience.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

JOB GOAL:

  1. To Mentor/Coach by providing instructional leadership to Pre-AP, AP and IB teachers/staff.
  2. To assist the campus principals in providing students with an authentic Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, College Readiness, and Post Secondary School Program.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher Pay 187 days, 10 day stipend at daily rate - Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.      

Assist in the development of the 9-12 Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Credit, College Readiness, and Real World Instructional Program curriculum, including the AP Audit/Course Approval through the College Board.

        2.  

Assist in developing a continuing evaluation of the 9-12 AP/IB, Dual Credit, College Readiness, and Real World Instructional Programs and implement revisions based on that evaluation.

3.    

Collaborate with 9-12 staff to develop, maintain, and analyze curriculum documents based on systematic review of the AP/IB programs.         

4.   

Facilitates activities designed to promote and encourage esprit-de-corps for IB students, parents and teachers.

5.    

Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.

6.      

Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs; ensure the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.

        7.   

Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents required by advanced studies.

8.

Assists the principal in interviewing and selecting AP/IB staff.

9.     

Provides a calendar of events for the IB program.

10.    

Conference regularly with assigned staff to discuss performance; jointly develop improvement objectives to identify professional growth opportunities for teachers in related programs.

11.     

Facilitates pre-IB program including recruiting potential IB students, receiving applications, interviewing candidates and communicating with parents.

12. 

Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

13.     

Perform other tasks and assume such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

14.     

Serves as liaison with universities for examinees, guest instruction and on-site visits.

15.     

Using appropriate and effective techniques for community and parental involvement, articulates the Pre IB/IB mission to the community and solicits its support in realizing the mission.

        16.

Monitors AP/IB classrooms to assess the utilization of appropriate teaching strategies and facilitates the alignment of the AP/IB curriculum to the appropriate State and International standards.

        17.

Serve as a resource person for or the leader of curriculum studies and workshops for related programs.

        18.

Facilitates the administration of frequent assessments to ensure student progress toward the full IB diploma program.

        19.

Guide research, textbook selection, examination procedures, the setting of grading standards, and the effective use of technical equipment.

        20.

Facilitate and maintain such record keeping as is necessary per the advanced studies department needs and directives.

        21.

Initiate and maintain effective liaison with higher education and the Higher Education Coordinating Board to keep abreast of new developments and ideas for post secondary education plans.

        22.

Conduct an instructional orientation program quarterly for new 9-12 secondary school personnel in related programs.

        23.

Assist with the AP Incentive Program. 

        24.

Initiate and maintain effective liaison with other school districts to keep abreast of their statistics, new educational developments and ideas.

        25.

Keep current with educational developments and the literature of the College Board, Leadership trends, Post Secondary Planning, and participate in the affairs of state and national professional societies devoted to the advancement of education.

        26.

Conference regularly with the director of advanced studies to identify the instructional issues and needs of the program.

        27.

Register, schedule and monitor all AP Exams in May of each year.

        28.

Communicate with ETS and the College Board to meet registration, payment and course audit requirements.

Working Conditions:
Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate district-wide curriculum functions; interpret policy, procedures, and data.
Physical Demands:
  Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible.  Frequent district-wide travel; occasional statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
