634AD - FACILITATOR, ADVANCED PLACEMENT


REPORTS TO:  Coordinator of Advanced Academic Studies

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree
  2. Supervision or Mid-Management Certification, preferred
  3. Valid Texas teaching certificate with at least five years successful teaching and/or administrative experience.
  4. Experience as a classroom teacher of Advanced Placement courses
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

JOB GOAL:

  1. To facilitate with the Coordinator of Advanced Academic Studies goals to increase Advanced Placement teacher and student performance through data analysis and best practices.
  2. To assist the Coordinator of Advanced Academic Studies in the continued development, implementation, and coordination of an effective Advanced Placement program and Dual Credit program district-wide.  

 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 4, 204 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.                   Assists in the development of a full system of Advanced Placement (AP), Pre-Advanced Placement (PAP), and Dual Credit courses, including the AP Audit/Course Approval through the College Board and other steps required for initiating and sustaining such courses.

2.                   Assists in developing a continuous evaluation process of AP, PAP, and Dual Credit programs at secondary campuses and implement revisions based on that evaluation.

3.                   Collaborates with secondary staff and district curriculum coordinators to develop, maintain, and analyze curriculum documents based on a clearly articulated and systematic review process.

4.                   Facilitates, supports, and evaluates professional learning for staff and administrators.

5.                   Develops a plan for targeted and systematic staff development and demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the use of staff development funding allotments.

6.                   Establishes and maintains a regular schedule of working with teachers and administrators in order to plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate learning objectives, effective instructional strategies, and quality assessment techniques.

7.                   Observes classroom instruction and demonstrates skill in "coaching" staff; provides technical assistance to teachers concerning the teaching/learning process and encourage improved performance through an instructional leadership relationship.

8.                   Applies research and data to improve the content, sequence, alignment, and outcomes of the teaching/learning process with regard to AP, PreAP, and Dual Credit.

9.                   Involves instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.

10.                Works with curriculum coordinators to identify needs for district vertical team meetings, facilitates those meetings, and follows up on action plans stemming from those meetings.

11.                Assists teachers and principals in collecting data to drive instruction with a focus on student achievement in AP, PAP, and dual credit classes.

12.                Informs Coordinator, campus leadership, and teachers of current trends, best practices, and programmatic or regulatory changes in each program.

13.                Conducts an instructional orientation program quarterly for new staff.

14.                Identifies and facilitates opportunities for PAP, AP, and Dual Credit parent involvement at secondary campuses, including but not limited to parent meetings.

15.                Facilitates AP exams for both high schools, including registration, site preparation, scheduling, monitoring, and other details necessary for successful exam sessions.

16.                Compiles, maintains, files, and presents all reports, records, and other documents required by the Coordinator.

17.                Assists Coordinator in developing and maintaining a policy handbook for each program and communicates those guidelines to administrators and staff.

18.                Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and communication with students, staff, parents, community, College Board, and dual credit providers and serves as their primary contact person for AP, PAP, and Dual Credit issues.

19.                Communicates regularly with the College Board and all dual credit providers to meet registration, payment and course audit requirements and to ensure instructors meet eligibility criteria.

20.                Conferences regularly with the Coordinator to communicate instructional issues, data trends, current educational developments, and program needs.

21.                Assists the Coordinator in the development and implementation of budgets and expenditures related to each program, including AP incentives.

22.                Performs duties with an awareness of and adherence to all district requirements, policies, and procedures, and is accountable for time management.

23.                Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

Mental Demands: 
Reading, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written, maintain emotional control under stress; ability to facilitate district wide curriculum functions.
Physical Demands:
 Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computers; transporting curriculum materials for staff development; and frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
