616A - SUPERVISOR OF SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY SERVICES


 

QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Master's Degree in Speech Pathology

  2. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)

  3. American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) membership

  4. At least three years experience as a Speech Language Pathologist

  5. Such alternatives as to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustee may find appropriate.

REPORTS TO:   Director of Special Education

 

SUPERVISES:  Speech Language Pathologists/ Speech Language Pathology Assistants

 

JOB GOALS:      

  1. To coordinate speech language pathology services district-wide.

  2. To provide best practices and legal requirements to the Speech Language Pathology staff.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 4, 192 days Wage/hour Status:  Exempt


                                                                    

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Assists in developing therapy goals and objectives.

Assists the supervisee in developing and refining assessment skills.
  1.  
Assists the supervisee in developing and refining therapy management skills.
  1.  
Demonstrates for and participates with the supervisee in therapy.
  1.  
Assists the supervisee in the development and maintenance of therapy.
  1.  
Interacts with the supervisee in planning, execution, and analyzing supervisory conferences.
  1.  
Assists the supervisee in evaluation of therapy performance.
  1.  
Demonstrates research skills in the therapy or supervisory processes.
  1.  
Is responsible to the Director of Special Education and serves as the liaison between campus Special Education programs and the district's Directors and Coordinators.

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
  1.  
Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Educational rule, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school.

Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and policies concerning Special Education.
  1.  
Interprets state and federal Special Education statutes, case law, regulations, and rules on a regular basis; reviews and revises local procedures, operational guidelines and forms accordingly.

Works with staff to ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
  1.  
Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
  1.  
Uses information provided through the district appraisal process to improve performance.
  1.  
Plans and assists in the implementation of appropriate staff development programs.
  1.  
Articulates the district mission to the community; solicits its support in realizing the mission.
  1.  
Demonstrates awareness of school-community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs.
  1.  
Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

 

 

EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, copier, fax and related office equipment.

Working Conditions: Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinated campus support functions.

Physical Demands: Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities; prolonged and irregular hours; regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
