803 - Director, Child Care Center


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. High school diploma or GED; 21 years of age.

  2. Must possess one of the following:  a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 12 credit hours of child development or early childhood education and one year of experience in a child care center; a Child
    Development Associate credential; an associate of arts degree in child development, or a closely related area and one year of experience in a child care center; a child care administrator’s credential issued by a professional
    organization or an educational institution  and recognized by the Licensing Branch and one year of experience in a center (the experience may have been part of the credential requirement; or three years experience as a director
    (manager) or staff in a licensed child care facility and six credit hours in child care, child development, or early childhood education and six credit hours in business management from an accredited college or university.  Five continuing
    education units may be substituted for each three credit hours.

  3. Sensitive to the individual need of the parents and their children.

REPORTS TO:       Director, Instructional Alternative Programs              

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To develop and administer the Center’s capabilities to offer child care programs in accordance with the philosophies and policies of the school district and within the assigned budget.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical   Paygrade 8 Estimated 185 days;   estimated 8 hours daily; wage/hour: nonexempt                                      


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  

Keeps the director  informed of changing needs and concerns within the center’s area of responsibility.                                                           

  1.  

Recommends fiscal procedures.                                                     

  1.  

Prepares budget projections.                                                  

  1.  

Insures compliance with local, state, and federal Child Care Center regulations.                                                      

  1.  

Supervises the program on an ongoing basis in all child care classrooms.  Observes and evaluates the program, acts as a resource person for teachers, provides in-service training and workshops as needed for staff development.

Provides assistance in processing applications, establishing income levels, maintains records of children’s starting and ending dates.

  1.  

With the assistance of the case manager, confers with parents who express a concern verbally or in writing; meets with any parent whose child is experiencing difficulty or whose child is targeted for intervention, i.e., medical, educational, or psychological.

  1.  

Coordinates purchases for the Child Care Center and maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment.                                          

  1.  

Conducts staff meetings as needed.

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business; demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

  1.  

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

  1.  

Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedure for absences.

  1.  

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

  1.  

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

  1.  

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

  1.  

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures.

  1.  

Participates in professional development programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:   

                Uses computer, typewriter, printer, fax, copier, and child care equipment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental  Demands:  Reading; ability to perform basic arithmetic; ability to communicate effectively
(verbal and written); demonstrates love for small children;  maintain emotional control under stress; maintains good judgment in a crisis situation. 

                Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Works with frequent interruptions; moderate standing,
              stooping, bending, and lifting.
