734A - SPECIAL EDUCATION JOB COACH


REPORTS TO:  Director of Special Education

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED;

  2. To comply with the "No Child Left Behind" requirements, at least 48 semester hours of college credit or pass a rigorous test to be administered through Region VII.

  3. Experience working with students or parents.

  4. Ability to work with children with disabilities.

  5. Desire and ability to work with and communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents.

JOB GOALS:   

  1. Assist students in the development of job related skills and tasks. Assist employer and student in maintaining communication and satisfaction with job performance. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

  2.  To maintain a positive relationship between parents and school personnel.                       


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical; Paygrade 2; Estimated 185 days; estimated 8 hours daily; Wage/hour:  nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

1.    

Assist the teacher in preparing and organizing task analysis of job requirements and charting documentation of progress.

2.    

Work with individual or small groups to implement IEP goals and objectives and guide instructional training assigned by the teacher/employer.

3.    

Assist Transition Teacher or Vocational Adjustment coordinator for the purpose of supporting lesson plans and/or developing student's vocational abilities.

4.    

Supervise students in your care throughout the day, in the community, on the job, and in the classroom.

5.    

Provide assistance in designated areas of the school and/or job site.

6.    

Observes and records behavior patterns and develops appropriate techniques to reinforce appropriate behaviors.

7.    

Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manuals and records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.

8.    

Evaluates students and employers for the purpose of ensuring program access by matching student skills to job requirements.

9.    

Assist in inventory care and maintenance of equipment/materials.

10. 

Assist in transportation training of students who are working in community.

11. 

Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers as necessary.

12. 

Provide instruction and training in job skills for students who are working at community job sites with all job related activities while at job site.

13. 

Serve as facilitator of communication between job site employer and Transition Teacher or vocational Adjustment coordinator.

14. 

Assists in training or personal hygiene, taking care of personal needs, and developing basic self-sufficiencies for independence and community living.

15. 

Assists students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.

16. 

Participate in district in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.

17. 

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

18. 

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business; demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

19. 

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

20. 

Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedure for absences.

21. 

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

22. 

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.
23. Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
24. Adheres to the district's safety policies and procedures.
25. Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
26. Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.
27. If applicable, input, verify or update PEIMS information as assigned by supervisor.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental factors:
  Maintain emotional control under stress.  Frequent standing; stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students.  Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
