732 INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT, PLYLER ALTERNATIVE CAMPUS/ IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION


REPORTS TO: Director, Plyler Alternative Campus

 

QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. High school diploma or GED           

  2. Demonstrates interest in and aptitude for work to be performed

  3. Keyboarding and computer proficiency

  4. Desire and ability to work with children

  5. To comply with the "No Child Left Behind" requirements, at least 48 semester hours of college credit or pass a rigorous test to be administered through Region VII.

  6. Have experience related to working with students or parents

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To assist teachers to establish student self-esteem, good foundation for life skills, and socialization skills.  


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade 2 Estimated 185 days;   estimated  8 hours daily Wage/hour status:  Non-exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

1.    

Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

2.    

Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.

3.    

Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.

4.    

Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

5.    

Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

6.    

Provide orientation and assistance to the substitute teacher when the teacher is absent.

7.    

Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual  students or small groups.

8.    

Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.  This
includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty where applicable.

9.    

Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

10. 

Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

11. 

Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

12. 

Assist with copying and assembling papers in the office, as requested.

13. 

Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment.

14. 

Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.

15. 

Distribute, collect, and check student assignments for accuracy.

16. 

Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers.

17. 

Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).

18. 

Record student attendance and discipline referrals using personal computer.

19. 

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.      

20. 

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business; demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

21. 

Is prompt and timely in completing daily tasks.

22.

Meets attendance standards and complies with campus notification procedures for absences.

23.

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

24.

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

25.

Adheres to the district’s safety procedures and policies.

26.

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

27. If applicable, input, verify, or update PEIMS information as assigned by supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands: In order to effectively do the job, you must have the ability to read; the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); the ability to motivate the slow or reluctant student tom complete assigned work; the ability to maintain emotional control under the stress of disciplining students; and the ability to work with emotionally disturbed and physically disabled students all day in an isolated location.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: The job involves moderate standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting. There is also possible exposure to violent student behavior.
