713 Library Assistant/(Secondary)/Cafeteria Monitor


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate;

  2. Have experience related to working with students or parents;

  3. Keyboarding and computer proficiency and computation skills preferred;

  4. Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.

REPORTS TO:          Building Principal and Librarian

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To assist the librarian, teachers, and students in the library.

  2. To monitor the cafeteria as assigned


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade1   Estimated 185 days; estimated 8 hrs daily Wage/Hour Status:  Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  

Record shelf list information; assign accession numbers; assign bar codes; label each book with proper spine call number; enter all books into computer with above information.

  1.  

Stamp in each magazine as received; keep records of magazine with dates; shelve new ones and reshuffle old ones.

  1.  

Maintain daily records of all equipment leaving or entering the building.

  1.  

Order repairs when service to equipment is required.

  1.  

Maintain equipment for teachers to include replacing bulbs.

  1.  

Maintain inventory records of audio visual equipment, making sure enough equipment is available.

  1.  

Deliver media orders.

  1.  

Supervise library student helpers.

  1.  

Assist students locate books teachers have requested, teach students how to use the card catalog and review students in the use of the Dewey Decimal system.

  1.  

Assist students to use the computer to locate books by name, title, or author.

  1.  

Assist teachers by readying reference materials for use in the library or classroom.

  1.  

Order magazine article requests for students and teachers from the professional library; maintain records on all requests.

  1.  

Assist in disciplining the students to maintain proper behavior in the library, as needed.

  1.  

Maintain accurate records of library books checked in and out by student and staff on computer.

  1.  

Organize, circulate, and maintain collection of videos.

  1.  

Organize, circulate, and maintain vertical files.

  1.  

Compile all previously recorded statistics including media, book circulation, and library usage totals.

  1.  

Assist teachers, as needed, with students in computer programs, supervision, and discipline.

  1.  

Start computers and boot system every day.

  1.  

Order service and/or assistance for computers.

  1.  

Assist teachers, students, and librarian in maintaining the accelerated Reader
program.

  1.  

Order all library supplies, as requested.

  1.  

Maintain records relating to collection of money for fines and lost books.

  1.  

Send out bi-weekly reminders of all overdue books and collect fines.

  1.  

Maintain records of lost books; receive money paid for lost books.

  1.  

Assist in preparing instructional materials for teachers to be used in the classroom.

  1.  

Laminate materials for faculty and students.

  1.  

Shelve books and keep shelves in order.

  1.  

Schedule classes coming to the library.

  1.  

Supervises students throughout the school day, inside and outside classroom including cafeteria  and bus duty.

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.
