709 - HEAD START CASE MANAGER


QUALIFICATIONS:     

  1. High school diploma or GED           

  2. Oral and written Spanish fluency, preferred 

  3. Current driver’s license, ability to drive, insurable

  4. Desire and ability to work with children

  5. Have experience related to working with students or parents

  6. Keyboarding and computer proficiency

  7. To comply with the "No Child Left Behind" requirements, at least 48 semester hours of college credit or

    pass a rigorous test to be administered through Region VII.

REPORTS TO: Director of Head Start           

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To assist in the successful operation of the Head Start office.

  2. To achieve accurate Head Start records and reports.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade 3 Estimated 205 days; estimated  8 hours daily Wage/hour status:  nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

1.

Attend, participate, and facilitate in monthly center meetings and Title I parenting meetings and activities.

2.

Collaborate home visits with the classroom teachers in completing the family partnership agreement to all children/families assigned.

3.

Collaborate, track and document student frequent tardies, absentees, and attendance to maintain the required average daily attendance and replace students as they are withdrawn from classes.

4.

Assist with the identifications and referrals for students exhibiting inappropriate behavior to resolve or alleviate difficulties that adversely affect a child’s adjustment in the classroom.

5.

Assist with facilitating, collaborating and providing parent/student training opportunities.

6.

Schedule, facilitate, obtain signed releases in a timely manner and transport students scheduled for medical, dental, lab, immunizations, etc. for all students assigned, within (45), (90) days of their enrollment, if needed to meet deadlines.

7.

Attend and participate in monthly case staffing with staff, coordinators, and the Head Start Director.

8.

Communicate (verbal/written) and document medical/dental/immunizations results to the Head Start nurse, teachers and parents. 

9.

Document student files to reflect activities and services of assigned case loads.

10.

Provide feedback to teachers, head start nurse and head start nutritionist regarding height/weight for students, provide services as required.

11.

Facilitate/schedule/report and data enter the results of all lab work to the Head Start nurse prior to filing in the student’s enrollment folder.

12.

Communicate effectively with the Head Start nurse, doctor’s and dentist’s staff to meet the medical needs of all children assigned.

13.

Assist in inviting parents to the Health Advisory Committee Meetings.

14.

Facilitate and provide education, health, and nutrition training and information to parents/families assigned. 

15.

Collaborate with Mental Health Coordinator when needed.

16.

Monitor and update the necessary emergency information and family data for each child assigned.

17.

Enter and update student/family data on the child plus computer software program for all students assigned for accurate program tracking and program information reporting.

18.

Identify and document family goals, strengths, and requested services on an on-going basis.

19.

Schedule and facilitate parent orientation sessions.

20.

Assist in accessing, referring and following-up for community services and resources for parents; involve and assist parents in becoming self-sufficient.

21.

Update the Community Resource directory as necessary.

22.

Collaborate and communicate with the family and community partnerships/mental health coordinator concerning the goals and requests of parents.

23.

Participate in on-going outreach, recruitment and enrollment activities on and off site which systematically ensures the enrollment of income eligible children; maintain a waiting list of completed applications to enroll when students withdraw.

24.

Participate and provide documented two-way communication of home visits, conferences, telephone calls, and referrals; solicit and refer parents to be involved with the Policy Council and the Head start classrooms/office/program activities on a monthly basis. 

25.

Assist in providing parent/volunteer training to parents/families assigned.

26.

Assist and provide the necessary health assessments involving assigned students.

27.

Communicate the special needs of children with the Early Childhood Coordinator and the Social Services Coordinator.

28.

Assist, refer, and participate in the annual program self-assessment and revision of all component plans.

Comply with the Accountability forms

30.

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor; performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

31.

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

32.

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

33.

Meets attendance standards and complies with the Head Start notification procedures for absences.

34.

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

35.

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

36.

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

37.

Periodically attends workshops, seminars, conferences, and participate in opportunities for professional growth.

38.

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures.

39.

Participates in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

40.

Update and submit PEIMS information as requested by the nutritionist, data enter, verify and report when needed.

41.

Track, document and notify parents by phone and in writing concerning absences and tardies, beginning with the first occurrence.

42.

Schedule, document and complete at least two home visits for each student assigned.

43.

Print and review ChildPlus reports regularly and update information as necessary for all areas.

44.

Case Managers will submit class roll to campus secretary 2 weeks prior to school starting.

45.

Retrieve and data enter monthly inkind information.

46.

Frequent campus travel


EQUIPMENT USED:
Uses calculator, copier, telephone, vision and hearing machine, computer, and fax machine.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands: Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors: Moderate standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting. work with frequent interruptions; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; frequent district-wide travel.
