886 TRANSPORTATION PARTS AND SERVICE TECHNICIAN


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a High School diploma or GED

  2. Interest, attitude, and ability to grow professionally

  3. Entry level computer literacy

  4. Knowledge of bus parts

  5. A valid Texas commercial drivers license with bus driver certification negative mandatory OTETA test.

  6. Pass TEA/DOT annual physical.

REPORTS TO:        DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION AND COORDINATOR OF BUS SHOP

JOB GOALS:

  1. Assist in maintaining department vehicles at maximum efficiency levels.

  2. Accurately record all repairs, parts, and other services.

  3. Assist in effecting minor facility repairs and improvements.

  4. Assist supervisors and mechanics in accomplishing department goals.

  5. Maintain accurate parts inventory.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Paygrade: 4; Estimated 226 days; estimated 8 hours daily



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.         

Closely monitors the two-way radio for distress calls.

2.         

Accurately assesses distress calls and takes timely and appropriate action.

3.         

Communications needs assessments to the bus shop coordinator.

4.         

Observes and enforces safety standards.

5.         

Maintains accurate parts purchases, issue, and inventory records including fuel keys and other accessories so needed by staff.

        6

Maintains an up-to-date inventory of frequently used repair parts and initiates appropriate procurement efforts for replacement.

7.         

Prepare inventory for annual audit, keeping inventory levels at minimum levels.

8.         

Follows district purchasing procedures in securing as-needed repair parts.

9.         

Maintains neat, clean and orderly parts room.

10.      

Maintains neat, orderly vehicle repair order files.

11.      

Prepares annual vehicle repair summaries on all department vehicles.

12.      

Maintains personal qualifications for driving school buses.

13.      

Acts as substitute bus driver or monitor, when required.

14.      

Complies with directions and instructions from Supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

15.      

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

16.      

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

17.      

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

18.      

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

19.      

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

        20.

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

        21.

Continue professional growth through workshops and seminars.

Computer; standard shop equipment; operates school  bus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to understand verbal instructions; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to perform manual tasks and body movement, physical capacity to handle large vehicle tires and wheels.  Work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and vehicle fumes; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; ability to operate motor vehicle.
