879A Certified Preventive Maintenance Technician
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED; and at least one of the
following certifications, Federal Environmental Protection Agency
refrigerant certified. Playground safety certified; Irrigation Auditing
Certified, or other certifications beneficial to school maintenance.
- Five years verifiable on-the-job experience as a
service man without direct supervision.
- Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license;
must be insurable and must maintain insurability.
- Must correctly answer eighty percent (80%) or more of
"Specialized Maintenance Knowledge" questionnaire.
- Demonstrates professional manner and aptitude for
successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities. Has ability
and desire to grow professionally.
- Be conscientious in maintaining assigned paper work
and records including time cards, PM inspection forms, ordering references,
etc. as required.
- Be willing to work occasional overtime.
REPORTS TO: SUPERVISOR OF MAINTENANCE
JOB GOALS:
To inspect/repair for the purpose of preventive maintenance all HVAC, electrical
and plumbing systems as well as Playground, Irrigation and IPM inspections.
Submit data to supervisor for the creation of PM work orders.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Paygrade:
7; Estimated 232 days; estimated 8 hours daily Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Plans and schedules daily assigned work orders
(prepare materials needed and equipment required). Maintain work orders in
proper priorities.
- Survey large or questionable job with PM inspector
technician or foreman.
- Survey safety devices and equipment on a regular
basis. Keep equipment and tools in a clean and safe condition, including
shop and/or work areas.
- Maintain vehicle in an operational condition by
checking oil, transmission, water, battery, brake fluid, power steering
fluid, and tire pressure and fill out the Daily Vehicle Inspection Checklist
form, making special notation of a problem and turn in checklist immediately
to the Coordinator. Maintain the truck organized and reasonable clean.
- Provides complete and accurate information concerning
work assigned and/or completed to the dispatcher and/or PM inspector
technician or foreman.
- Observes and practices all safety rules and
requirements pertaining to hazardous chemicals, asbestos containing
materials (ACM), and environmental hazards.
- Performs according to job requirements concerning
climbing ladders, scaffolds and platforms in order to do work, including
roof tops of multistory buildings.
- Ability to do required lifting and carrying of
reasonable loads of at least fifty (50) pounds.
- Complies with directions and instructions from
supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may
be assigned.
- Maintains positive and cooperative working
relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business
and demonstrates team work in daily activities.
- Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing
assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.
- Meets attendance standards and complies with
notification procedures for absences.
- Provides complete and accurate information in the
conduct of district business.
- Complies with district policies, as well as state and
federal laws and regulations.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Equipment used performing tasks in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning,
appliance repairs, and boiler maintenance field, other repairs of buildings,
locks, glass, and sewer system.

Mental Demands:
Ability to read, perform basic arithmetic; ability to communicate effectively
(verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to perform manual
tasks and body movement including climbing, lifting, reaching, stooping,
bending, walking, standing and carrying. Ability to lift 50 pounds weight. Work
outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; dust; toxic chemicals
and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders, scaffolds,
platforms, in ditches/excavations, on top of and underneath single story and
multi-story buildings, work alone and with other personnel.
