REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Five (5) years successful experience in Buildings and Grounds maintenance work
  3. Must maintain current Texas Driver License; maintain appropriate driving record for insurance purposes
  4. Demonstrates aptitude for  successfully performing tasks assigned to him
  5.  Demonstrates ability to work with and get along with people, assign work, inspect work, and write reports
  6. Good manual dexterity, ability to lift fifty (50) pounds
  7. Willingness to work occasional overtime

 

JOB GOALS:
To maintain the Buildings & Grounds of all district schools in a condition of safety, neatness and aesthetic attractiveness, so that each student may be provided with an indoor/outdoor environment both pleasing to look at and good to play in.

 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Paygrade: 7; Estimated 232 days; estimated 8 hours daily Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Oversee and participates as needed in the grounds maintenance work of the district’s schools and related facilities.

2.       

Assigns duties to Buildings & Grounds Crew and inspects progress and completion of work.

3.       

Confers with principals and other parties in making plans for maintenance at their schools.

4.       

Oversee watering schedules and use of fertilizers, and herbicides.

5.       

Purchase supplies and equipment as needed for Buildings & Grounds Department.

6.       

Inspect work performed by District Landscape and Maintenance contractor.

7.       

Trains subordinates to perform their duties as required.

8.       

Instructs subordinates on proper and safe use of equipment, e.g. mowers, edgers, tractors, dollies and other moving equipment.

9.       

Gives warnings as necessary, both verbal and written, for infractions.

10.    

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

11.    

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

12.    

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

13.    

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

14.    

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

15.    

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

16.    

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

17.    

Follows the daily work schedule and makes good use of time.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:  Ability to use all manual and motorized lawn equipment

Mental Demands:
  Reading; ability to understand basic arithmetic; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress. 
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 
Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to perform manual tasks and body movement including climbing, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, walking, standing, and carrying. Works outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
