TISD Senior Recognized by Region as Outstanding Student

John Tyler High School Senior, Karina Palacios, will be recognized Monday, April 11, at 6:00 p.m. by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP), as an outstanding senior.  The event, held in partnership with American State Bank, will take place at Whitehouse High School, located at 901 East Main Street, Whitehouse, Texas.  Palacios will be one of the students from 27 school districts honored at this event.

Palacios is receiving this recognition for several accomplishments including graduating with honors as the John Tyler valedictorian and representing the senior class as vice-president.  Her grade point average (GPA) is 3.94 and she is ranked first in her graduating class.  Palacios is the first person in her family to go to college.  She plans to attend the University of Texas at Tyler to study nursing and become a Registered Nurse (RN) and eventually a Nurse Anesthetist.

Attendees to tonight’s event include Archie McAfee, TASSP’s executive director, and Ralph Funk, TASSP’s president, as well as more than 150 principals, parents, and students to celebrate excellence in Region 7 secondary schools.

TASSP’s motto is “Above All, Students First,” and this banquet is the highlight of a year spent serving principals and students.  The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals is an association formed by and for over 5000 campus level administrators. Established in 1922, its purpose is to support secondary school leadership. TASSP is the largest principals’ organization of its kind.
