TISD Students Hold Japan Tsunami Relief Fundraiser

Tyler ISD students are working through a national organization to help those in need after the recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan.  A group of Robert E. Lee High School seniors are organizing a fundraiser through the Save the Children Club at the campus.  They will hold a Japan Tsunami Relief Fundraiser on Saturday, April 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the West Erwin Church of Christ Benevolent Building, located at 219 South Bonner Street, in Tyler.  A donation of $10 will buy one enchilada dinner or a donation of $18 will buy two dinners with all the proceeds going to the Save the Children’s Japan Tsunami Relief Fund.  Donations for the diner must be made by March 31st and may be dropped off at the Tyler ISD Administration Building located at 1319 New Sunnybrook Drive, Tyler.

“Your donation will go towards a fundraising event that helps to benefit children that suffer each and every day,” said student organizer, Jeanette Barena, a senior at Robert E. Lee High School.  “Our goal as young leaders is to spread the word of kindness and persuade people to donate in order to help these children who need our help.”

Classmates Christa Ruiz, Angie Molina, Mike Dailey and Ali Gilpin have joined Barena in her efforts to help the children of Japan, as part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) studies.  The IB project requires students to plan, organize, work through problems, and complete some sort of project that benefits people either locally or globally, as well as advertise their events as part of the process.
