TISD Students Compete in Mock Congressional Hearings

John Tyler High School students competed in the We the People State Competition sponsored by the State Bar of Texas Law Related Education Department in Austin this past December. The students testified in mock congressional hearings where they demonstrated their understanding of the institutions of the constitutional democracy and the fundamental principles and values on which they were founded. The curriculum for the competition aides the students in developing the skills needed to become effective and responsible citizens while increasing an understanding of democratic processes in both public and private life.

The primary goal of We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is to promote civic competence and responsibility among the nation’s elementary and secondary students.
