News Release TISD Students Awarded for Honoring Veterans

Tuesday, December 7th, representatives from The Workforce Solutions of East Texas and the Texas Veterans Commission surprised three John Tyler High School students with awards and gifts for placing in an essay writing contest. Each year, these organizations recognize and honor military veterans through the Vet Focused Job Fair; Military Wall of Honor; and an Essay Writing Contest.
The individuals listed below have been selected as Winners of the 7th Annual Texas Veterans Commission/Workforce Solutions East Texas-Tyler’s Veterans Essay Writing Contest, sponsored by Express Employment Professionals.
1ST Place Winner ($150.00 prize) Roberto Vazquez, 12th grade 2nd Place Winner ($100.00 prize) Maria Araujo, 12th grade 3rd Place Winner ($50.00 prize) Jamesia Davis, 12th grade
These students are also a part of the AVID Program (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a college readiness program that emphasizes community relations and student achievement.
