News Release TISD New Teachers Treated Like Rock Stars As new teachers to the Tyler Independent School District enter their first day of orientation, they are greeted with screams, cheers and loud music and made to feel like rock stars. It is all part of their District training. Guest speaker Hal Bowman will present a professional development event, “Teach Like a Rockstar,” for the new teacher training session on Monday, August 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Robert E. Lee High School, located at 411 ESE Loop 323, Tyler.
Bowman’s presentation to close to 200 new teachers of the District will kick off five days of induction training. Raising test scores throughout diverse populations; building strong connections with all students; and, of course, tapping into their own ability to uncover The Rockstar Teacher that lies within are just a few of the useful concepts being shared with these new staff members.
This year’s new teacher induction Theme is “TYLER ISD TEACHERS ROCK!” Throughout the week teachers will participate in professional development opportunities including technology integration, 5E Instructional model and planning strategies to compliment instruction, and support in using the district curriculum to further promote the theme’s goals.
A welcome luncheon will be provided Monday, August 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Robert E. Lee Cafeteria where new teachers will get the opportunity to hear from Dr. Reid, Superintendent other district administrators. First Year Teachers will be introduced to the first of four First Year Teacher Academies throughout the school year. It is a fast paced week that teachers will find informative and rewarding to their new position in the district.
The first day of school for Tyler ISD students is Monday, August 23.
