TISD Announces New John Tyler High School Principal

 

The Board of Trustees named Shon (pronounced: Shawn) Joseph, former principal of Palestine High School and current associate principal of John Tyler High School, as the new principal of John Tyler High School.  The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hiring decision at the Special Meeting held Wednesday, May 26, 2010.

 

 With more than 13 years of experience, Joseph began his education career in 1997 in Monroe City Schools, Monroe, Louisiana, as a speech teacher and coach. He also has worked for the Dallas, Wylie and Duncanville independent school districts in various roles and responsibilities.

 

As principal of Palestine High School, some of Joseph’s career highlights included:
 

 ·         The first graduate of the Texas High School Initiative’s High School Principal Pilot Program sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

 ·         2008-2009 and 2009-2010 Region 7 Nominated for the Principal of the Year

 ·         Led campus to T.E.A. Recognized status- first time ever for Palestine High School  
 ·        
 Led campus to meet AYP status- first time in 5 years for Palestine High School

 ·          Led campus to meet AYP status for the second consecutive year  

Prior to his principalship positions, Joseph was recognized as the Region 10 Assistant Principal of the Year 2008 and was selected to the first High School Principal Pilot Cohort in Texas sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Joseph holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.  He officially begins his duties May 27, 2010.
