Texas Bank and Trust (TB&T) is pleased to announce the application process will open for its Student Board of Directors program for local high school seniors, beginning Monday, January 25, 2010.  The TB&T Student Board is a prestigious program recognizing outstanding high school seniors in the community.

Seniors from Robert E. Lee and John Tyler high schools, along with students from private schools, are eligible to apply for student board positions for the 2010-2011 school year.  The selection of 11 Tyler Independent School District seniors – six representing Robert E. Lee High School and five representing John Tyler High School – are serving on its 2009-2010 Student Board of Directors.

Students who qualify to serve will attend meetings throughout the school year where they will learn about banking, budgeting, credit, the stock market, trust and brokerage services, job interviewing, and of course, the responsibilities of a bank board of directors.

Students will be selected based on their grade point average, extra-curricular activities, and afterschool work activities. Students must submit an essay with their application as well as two letters of recommendation from either a faculty member or administrator from the high school the student attends.

Interested students may pick up an application in their school counselor’s office or check with the college and career advisor. The deadline to return those applications back to their respective counselors will be Friday, March 5.

Texas Bank and Trust established the Student Board - its first and most enduring financial literacy program - in 1977.  This year will mark the second anniversary of the program for Tyler area schools.

Since its inception, the Student Board has introduced more than 1,432 high school seniors to banking and money management at a critical point in their lives. This year, the program will continue to provide students with essential economic building blocks related to earning, spending, saving and investing money.

Students accepted into the TB&T Student Board program will be notified in late May.  For more information, contact Abigail Duty, Texas Bank and Trust Business Development Officer at (903) 526-8080.
