TISD Accepting Nominations for Gifted and Talented Program

Tyler Independent School District is accepting nominations for assessment of giftedness in students who show high academic potential. Anyone can nominate a student for assessment, including parents, other relatives, guardians, school personnel, and others. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, January 29, 2010.

The nomination forms can be requested from a student’s classroom teacher and are also available on the Tyler ISD Website at www.tylerisd.org/DEPARTMENTS/Advanced studies/advanced_studies.htm

Assessments will be complete by March and parents will be notified of their child’s status. Kindergarten students who qualify will be served in their regular classroom until they are nominated for full assessment in the second semester of first grade. Older students who qualify for the program will begin receiving gifted services in the fall of 2010. For more information about the nomination or assessment process, parents may call the Advanced Studies Office at (903)-262-3498.
