The TB&T Student Board is a prestigious program recognizing outstanding high school seniors in the community. The Tyler ISD seniors who qualified for this year’s program join with seven other seniors from All Saints and Grace Community Schools to make up the inaugural senior class for the TB&T program in Tyler. The student directors will attend meetings throughout the school year where they will learn about banking, budgeting, credit, the stock market, trust and brokerage
services, job interviewing, and for the first time, serve as advisors to the bank on three areas of banking technology – the redesign of the bank’s website, the introduction of mobile banking, and the use of social media. The scheduled meeting dates for the Tyler board are November 12, February 11, and April 8. Students were selected based on their grade point average, extra-curricular activities, and afterschool work activities. Students must submit an essay with their application as well as two letters of recommendation from either a faculty member or administrator from the high school the student attends to be considered for the program. Texas Bank and Trust established the Student Board - its first and most enduring financial literacy program - in Longview in 1978. Since its inception, the Student Board has introduced more than 1,432 high school seniors to banking and money management at a critical point in their lives. This year, the program will continue to provide students with essential economic building blocks related to earning, spending, saving and investing money. Students accepted into the TB&T Student Board program were notified in late May. For information on how to participate in the 2010-2011 Student Board program, please contact Karen Partee, Texas Bank and Trust Director of Public Relations at (903) 237-1872.
