TISD Students Required to Meet Immunization Requirements

The start of school is fast approaching and so is the rush to have Tyler ISD students immunized to meet new requirements before the first day of school.  As a new measure, implemented by the state of Texas, students will not be allowed to enroll in school until immunization requirements are met.  Two grade levels impacted the most are students entering kindergarten and seventh grade.  These students have additional immunization requirements this school year that they have not had in the past.

“We have been communicating with parents since the spring of last school year,” said Nancy Jones, Coordinator of Health Services for Tyler ISD.  “We are also working with the Northeast Public Health District to offer immunization clinics to parents.

Immunization clinics have been scheduled for the following dates and times at The Northeast Texas Public Health District located at 815 N Broadway, Tyler.  These are open immunization clinics where no appointment is required and students from any school and any grade level are welcome to attend: Mondays and Tuesdays   8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Special clinics will be held at The Northeast Texas Public Health District Thursday and Friday, August 20 and 21, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In order to receive the vaccines at the Northeast Texas Public Health District, your child must qualify by meeting at least one of the following qualifications for the Texas Vaccine for Children Program.

    • Child is enrolled in Medicaid- Please bring current Medicaid paper
    • Child is not covered under insurance or insurance does not cover immunizations

There is an $8.00 administration fee per vaccine.

There will be an immunization clinic at the Children’s Health Fair sponsored by the Smith County Medical Alliance at First Christian Church located at ESE Loop 323 and Broadway Saturday, August 15, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

There will be a second health fair at Community Health Clinics of Northeast Texas located at 928 North Glenwood also on Saturday, August 15, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Parents are encouraged to please take their children, along with immunization records, to one of these clinics for the needed immunizations, so that student records are cleared and there is no delay in school attendance.

If parents have a question about their children’s shot records, they may call the Tyler ISD Health Services office at 903-262-3131.
