School May Be Out but Junior League of Tyler Volunteers
for TISD Foundation

June 1st marked the beginning of the school year for the five Junior League of Tyler, Inc. placement volunteers for the 2009-2010 academic year. Their training began this week with the staff of the Tyler ISD Foundation as they met at the Potpourri House, Monday, June 8th. The volunteers will each commit to at least 50 hours of service including evaluation of teacher grants, coordination of grant celebrations, visits to classroom to see the grants in process and other functions related to the various programs of the Tyler ISD Foundation in support of Tyler ISD.

“The Junior League of Tyler donated $15,000 for our grants program for Tyler ISD and they provide five volunteers working 50 hours each,” said Goddard. “It is estimated that a volunteer’s hour is worth the value of $21, so it is as if we are receiving an additional $5,250 donation with their service.”

Six Foundation Board Directors of the 34 Directors have served as Junior League placement volunteers. Several of the Tyler ISD Foundation Directors have been involved in Junior League and at least three have served as President.

“When we were founded almost 20 years ago, the first of three donations was from the Junior League. That gift is part of our endowment and remains with us today. Without Junior League’s commitment, community acceptance and awareness would be difficult,” Goddard said.
