John Tyler Choir Director Receives Honor

Tyler ISD congratulates Frank A. Watkins, choir director at John Tyler High School, on his recent achievement.  Watkins has been selected as the 2009-2010 Regional Choral Conductor of the 105 Voices of History National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Concert Choir. The “105 Voices Of History,” a National Choir chosen from every HBCU in the nation, will showcase their collective talents at a Premiere Event at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on September 7, 2009.

The 105 Voices National Concert Choir is comprised of students from each of the Nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Watkins will work with the nation’s brightest and most talented singers; preparing them for their debut concert during National HBCU week in September.

“This is indeed a great honor and privilege,” said Watkins. “I am a product of HBCU and am thrilled to be a part of this historic event.”  Watkins is among the top applicants chosen by the national foundation to serve as a regional conductor.  Applicants were required to submit an application, bio and resume to be considered for this honor.

HBCU is a non profit organization that focuses on fostering partnerships, resource and training development through the inclusion and collaboration of a broad and diverse spectrum of people, corporations, and foundations, in the public and private sectors to provide opportunities.
