News Release TISD Student Gives Back to School
The generosity and selflessness of one student affects hundreds of students. Andy Woods Elementary School fifth grader, Lauren Lyons, recently celebrated her 11th birthday. Lyons asked her friends to purchase new books and donate them to the Andy Woods Library instead of giving her gifts for her birthday. “The news of the donated books has gained a lot of attention by the other students at Andy Woods,” said Annalisa Stenklyft, librarian at Andy Woods Elementary School. “Several students have already asked if they can donate books to the library also. It is wonderful that Lauren has received so much admiration by her peers for her charitable spirit. She is a fantastic example of how children can put their generosity in to action. We are indeed grateful to Lauren and her family for setting such a wonderful example to our community," said Stenklyft. Now hundreds of students are enjoying Lyons’ birthday gifts by checking them out of the library. The Andy Woods library received more than twenty-five books from Lyons’ birthday donation. ### |
